Parish Renewal Team of Father Stephen Vasek,OMI and Sister Jean Fitzpatrick,
SSC, who are based here in Western New York, just returned from a
preaching workshop with all the other Oblates engaged in full-time
preaching ministry across the United States at the Oblate Renewal
Center in San Antonio, Texas during the week of June 5-9, 2006.

| ......The
second and third days of our time together we invited a guest speaker,
Father James Bacik, a priest of the Diocese of Toledo, Ohio to speak
to us. Fr. Bacik is a theologian, a pastor of Corpus Christi Parish
in Toledo and a campus minister at the University of Toledo. Father
Bacik recently published a new book on preaching by Paulist Press entitled:
̉ A Light Unto My PathÓ. During our time together, Father Bacik proceeded
to give us insights into preaching in the church today based on his
experience, his theological expertise, and a personal poll of people
across the United States. He was truly challenging and inspirational
in the way that he presented his material to us without ever using a
prepared note to keep him focused. Instead, he presented his ideas in
a way that truly kept us attentive and called us always to be more.
He was truly a remarkable apeaker and a gift to us and to the church.
It was a week well-spent. |
