Oblate Chapel Restored - Buffalo, NY

...........The free standing Oblate community chapel (dating back to 1888 - it was untouched by the fire of March 1947) is connected to the present day Holy Angels Oblate Residence. It is still used by Oblates for daily prayer and it is currently also used by the Holy Angels parish community for weekday Mass and adoration. This history laden chapel has been undergoing repairs and refurbishing for the past several years. It was recarpeted; the pews were replaced with pews donated from the dismantled Oblate Chapel in Washington, DC; a new roof was affixed; the outside brick work was repointed and interior plastering was repaired as needed; finally, in early summer of this year, the interior was repainted to highlight its architectural beauty and to capture anew the original inspiration of its designers. It will celebrate its 120th anniversary in 2008.
...........Here are photos of the just completed phase of the restoration work done on this venerable Oblate worship space.
