RESTORATION WORK IN PROGRESS

Having just celebrated its 150th anniversary serving the spiritual needs of Catholics on Buffalo’s West Side, Holy Angels Parish has been embarked on a decade-long program of facilities improvements and restoration.

The Church building itself is an architectural gem and much work has been done to maintain its structural integrity and beauty:

+ all outdoor woodwork has been scraped and freshly painted

+ all brickwork has been power-washed and re-pointed

+ all indoor electrical wiring and lighting fixtures have been up-graded

+ energy efficient lights have replaced the old incandescent bulbs throughout

+ the flooring has been stripped of layers of dulling wax build-up and

                  restored to its original luster

+ the sacristy and Guild Hall flooring has been renewed/replaced with

ceramic tile; the windows have been weatherproofed and the walls

                  repaired/repainted

MUCH REMAINS TO BE DONE – glance around from ceiling to floor as you

prayerfully take-in the beauty of the building and you will see.

The weekday Chapel has also undergone renovation/restoration up-

grades:

            + the roof was replaced

            + the brickwork was power-washed and re-pointed

            + the pews were replaced

+ overhead lights were re-wired and outfitted with energy-saving bulbs

AGAIN, MUCH REMAINS TO BE DONE – the flooring and walls still need

                attention.

Before
After

The building adjacent to the Church – (bordering on West St.) - once served as part of the H.A.C.I. complex and later as a Convent for the Grey Nuns – has been vacant for several years.

It is slowly being brought back to life as a parish and neighborhood resource.  To be named in memory of the late Fr. Robert Schwenker OMI, this Holy Angels Parish Center is undergoing extensive first floor renovations.  The original large meeting rooms are being restored and utility up-grades are being made to make the space available for parish groups.

Over time, restoration work will progress to the upper floors of this sound and valuable parish resource center.

Below is a “wish list” itemizing supplies needed to complete the current phase of this renovation/restoration project:

Library Restoration in Progress:

Please support the parish fund-raising activities spread-out over the course of the year – Christmas Bazaar, Dances, Raffles, Lenten Fish-Fry's, Summer Tombola or Summer Cruise  (“Tomboata”), Fall Golf Tournament – these are what make possible all of the renovation/restoration work.

In addition, we count on the generosity of all of our present and former parishioners – gifts, bequests, donations.  These assure Holy Angels’ ability to continue ministering to Buffalo’s West Side for years to come.  Finally, please remember us in your Will and we promise to prayerfully remember you here at Holy Angels.
