........Oblates of western New York gathered on September 4th for a traditional end-of-summer cookout. This year the event was hosted by Oblates at Annunciation parish. It was an opportunity for everyone to re-group after the close of the vacation months, to welcome new members (including the 6 young men in the Pre-Novitiate Candidacy Program), and to get a close-up look at the facilities of this parish for which the Oblates just recently assumed pastoral leadership. Visiting from Brazil was Fr. Dave O'Brien, OMI - ironically, the home in which he was reared is located directly across the street from the Annunciation parish rectory. We all waved in salutation at the current occupants! The fare was hot dogs and hamburgers with all the fixins' and the Franciscan Sisters from the Nazareth Nursing Home with whom we have had a long association, brought a variety of deserts to supplement an already rich board of pies and ice cream. A fitting way to usher in the Fall season.
