Buffalo, NY – Our “IC” is Strong

.....The Oblate Residence at Holy Angels, with its multiple ministries, takes to heart the Province’s commitment to Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation – JPIC.

.....In terms of Justice and Peace (JP), for 5 decades a licensed Federal Credit Union (founded by Fr. William Kelly OMI in 1941) operated from a secure office in the parish rectory.  At its peak it registered hundreds small depositors.  In the mid-90’s it merged with another local parish’s credit union.
.....There is an organized and on-going parish-based program (Friends of the Brazil Missions) inaugurated by the late Fr. Kevin Walsh, OMI, a missionary in Brazil stricken with polio in the prime of his life, for the collection and routing of substantial monthly donations to the Brazil missions
.....More recently, a monthly food distribution program for the needy was inaugurated last year and operates out of the parish’s Schwenker Center – this outreach assists some 200 area families every 3rd Tuesday of the month.
.....In addition to these efforts to promote Justice and Peace, great strides have been made in the past 8 years or so to address the issue of the Integrity of Creation (IC):
energy efficient light bulbs have been installed throughout the parish complex.
we recycle all of our aluminum and plastic containers
we collect alkaline, nickel-cadmium and lithium batteries as well as defunct computer electronics for quarterly disposal at collection sites in the city
we recycle all of our paper and encourage parishioners to use our recycling bin
we have upgraded our clothes washers to machines using 1/3 less water and 2/3 less detergent
as any major appliances are replaced, we favor “energy star” products to reduce our overall use of electricity
.....In a foundation housing some 15-16 Oblates and aspirants to the Congregation, we strive to do our part to promote the Integrity of Creation.
