Religious Education Moves to the Schwenker Center |
|
.....Just before the Christmas holidays, the offices and classrooms of the parish children’s school of religion (CCD) were shifted to the newly refurbished Schwenker Center on the church grounds. With this transfer, all components of our religious education program are now housed in the Parish Center. |
| ..... The
CYO for youngsters in grades 7-12 has had its own space there since
the rededicated Center opened in 2004.
Young adult faith formation sessions stretching over several
days will be operating using a “flex space” model on the 2nd
floor – classrooms will easily be collapsible into dormitories as needed
for overnight retreats and workshops.
Ample meeting rooms, a library, dining facilities can also host
adult education sessions and informal gatherings of parishioners such
as Family Retreat Days and Family Fun Nights. |
| ..... Housed
on the top floor, in a residential space, is a convent of African
Sisters (Immaculate Heart Sisters of Africa & Franciscan Sisters of
St. Bernadette) who are pursuing degree programs at D’Youville College. Their prayerful and committed missionary presence
in our midst is a source of inspiration and blessing for our whole parish
community. This witness will have
a special impact on the youngsters coming to the Schwenker Center for
religious instruction.

| ..... Classroom spaces which had been artificially carved-out of areas in the rectory’s basement and 1st floor can now be returned to their intended purposes; more privacy can thereby be provided for people seeking advice and counsel using some of that freed-up space on the first floor of the rectory. |
